Why You’re Not Getting a ROI from Your Website
Over the last 10 years, I’ve met with hundreds of business owners to discuss building them a website and enhancing their overall online image. One of the biggest complaints/rants I hear from people is they are not satisfied with the leads they get from their website.
Which I understand, because many business owners are just not involved with technical strategies for getting a ROI from their site. They just want it to work and expect it to just happen. The problem is, if you don’t have someone 100% dedicated to your website and overall online communications, you won’t see to much of a return. It just becomes a stale, static website.
In this day and age, your website needs to be dynamic, changing daily, posting to a blog, using social media to drive traffic to your site, not someone elses.
I like to browse other business social media accounts and so often I see them make a nice post about whatever the are offering and I’ll click on the link. Guess where that link goes. YUP, to an external, not relevant to your business website.
You need to create meaningful content that drives traffic to YOUR WEBSITE.
The best response I get when meeting clients is “Well I have a website but most of my business is word of mouth”. Ok, so why do you have a website? Credibility? If you’re website looks like garbage and isn’t updated frequently you are not giving a customer credibility. You are actually giving yourself a bad image, being perceived as someone who doesn’t care much about their image at all.
If you’re ok with having a static, stale website that gets 8 hits a week, then continue to keep building your business through word of mouth but DO NOT COMPLAIN that your website doesn’t have a return on your investment.
Remember, building a website for your business is only one piece of your online marketing communications. You need to think higher level.
